After some delays and as flagged by APS in October 2021 and February this year, Services Australia have informed the APS of significant changes to Medicare Online occuring next month.
As of Tuesday 4 October, members will not be able to submit Medicare Online claims and data to Services Australia until patient administration software is up to date.
What you need to know
If you're using old software to access Medicare Online, including Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Australian Immunisation Register channels, then you will be affected by these changes.
If your software is not upgraded, you will need to use alternative claiming channels, such as Health Professional Online Services (HPOS). Go to the Services Australia website and search for ‘online options for health professionals’ to find out more about this channel.
Where members aren’t able to make an electronic claim on their customer’s behalf using HPOS, the customer can submit their claim to Medicare via:
- Medicare online account through myGov
- Express Plus Medicare mobile app.
What you need to do
Talk to your software developer as soon as possible about upgrading or register for HPOS to continue digital claiming. Your software developer will also tell you if you need a PRODA Organisation account.
