Celebrating the first APS Melbourne Pride March contingent

Celebrating the first APS Melbourne Pride March contingent

Melbourne’s Annual Midsumma Pride March was held in St Kilda on Sunday 23 May. Over 250 groups and more than 8000 marchers participated in a display of pride and solidarity for the LGBTIQ+ community.

For the very first time, an APS Pride March contingent took part in this special day in a show of celebration and support for APS members and their clients who identify as LGBTIQ+. The contingent of 26 included psychologists, provisional psychologists, psychology students, APS employees, partners, friends and allies.

It was a fantastic day for all involved and provided an opportunity for Melbourne-based LGBTIQ+ APS members and employees to connect and stand together as one whilst being encouraged by the enthusiastic cheers from the general public of Melbourne who lined the streets. It was also an excellent opportunity to acknowledge, recognise and celebrate the unique and valued contribution the LGBTIQ+ community make across the breadth of the psychology profession.

The APS would like to sincerely thank and congratulate member Jen Jackson and her 'Rainbow Crew' from the Psychology of Diverse Bodies, Genders and Sexualities Interest Group for coordinating the first APS Pride March contingent.
