Government support payments during COVID-19

The Federal Government has announced support payments for workers affected by public health orders. 

COVID-19 Disaster Payment 

The COVID-19 Disaster Payment is a support payment for workers adversely affected by a state public health order. It: 

  • is a lump sum payment to help workers unable to earn income due to a COVID-19 lockdown, hotspot or period of restricted movement 

  • is made available (if you meet the eligibility requirements) when COVID-19 restrictions last for more than seven days 

  • can be received even if you are eligible for one day of an event 

  • ​is not available for the first seven days of an event. 

Who can receive the COVID-19 Disaster Payment 

There are strict eligibility requirements for the COVID-19 Disaster Payment.  

You must meet all of the general eligibility rules to get the COVID-19 Disaster Payment, as well as the eligibility rules applied by each state. 

The current eligibility dates for New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia are available on the Services Australia website

Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment 

The Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment is for Australians who can’t earn an income because they must self-isolate or quarantine, or are caring for someone with COVID-19.
