Closes 30 October 2026
What is this project about?
Seeking participants to participate in a research project to enhance suicide prevention and postvention in community sports. This project is funded by a Movember Sports Health Research Initiative Grant and has been approved by The University of Melbourne Human Research Ethics Committee (ID: 35038).
The study aims to better understand how community sport can help prevent, and respond to, self-harm and suicide among young people. The findings will be used to develop practical, evidence-based resources to support community sports clubs and organisations across both Australia and the UK.
Who can participate?
Individuals can participate if they are aged 16 years or older, live in Australia, and have been involved with a community sports club or team in the last 12 months.
What does participation involve?
Participants will be invited to complete an anonymous online survey (approximately 10-15 minutes). The survey includes questions about experiences, knowledge, and views related to self-harm and suicide in community sport settings, as well as helping behaviours and general beliefs. Because of the sensitive nature of these topics, the survey includes information about support services, and participants are reminded that they can skip any questions they do not wish to answer and stop at any time.
