APS Professional development
Overview
This 2-part webinar will provide a unique opportunity for psychologists who work with children, adolescents and families to enhance and deepen their skill base.
It will cover:
-
the theoretical paradigms used will explore working with children and adolescents from both a developmental perspective and psychodynamic orientation, and
-
specific techniques such as psychodynamic case formulations, family therapy, play therapy, symbol work, parent therapy, and individual psychotherapy for adolescents.
This combination will be explored in the context of both theoretical materials as well as numerous case examples and role plays.
Webinar 1:
-
introduction and overview,
-
psychodynamic principles,
-
how defence mechanisms operate in children and adolescents, and
-
how to assess families using the structure of the child psychosocial interview.
Webinar 2:
-
interpretation of children’s drawings, projective techniques and working with parents,
-
explore the process of using projective techniques, including art therapy, symbol work and play therapy,
-
assessing and working with parents, and
-
role plays and workplace settings: focus on current workplace settings of participants and how they can implement these techniques. Role plays will be used to demonstrate and practice skills.
Level of Learning
Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.
Duration of access
These webinars will be recorded and made available only to participants of the live event. Access to the recording and presenter slides (once available) is for 12 months from the date of confirmed registration.
Places are limited, and registration will not be available after the webinar has taken place.

Tania Kalkidis MAPS
About the presenter(s)
Tania Kalkidis is a registered Clinical Psychologist / Child Psychologist, who completed her Clinical Masters in 1993 (LaTrobe University, Melbourne), and completed a further Masters degree in Clinical Child Psychology in 1995 (Melbourne University). She is a full member of the APS, a member of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists, and a registered supervisor with AHPRA. For the past 32 years, Tania has worked with adults, adolescents, children, and couples from all walks of life. At the end of 2007 Tania re-located from Melbourne to the Gold Coast, and has been involved in training and supervising Psychologists in a range of academic and private organisations. From 2011 -2017 Tania was a Clinical Supervisor for Clinical Psychology Masters students at Bond University on the Gold Coast. For the past 7 years Tania has collaborated with the APS to develop and implement Supervision training programs nationally. She has also designed and implemented training programs for Psychologists who want to specialise in psychodynamic psychotherapy with children, adolescents, families and adults and offers specialised individual and group supervision.
Her psychotherapy services are designed to suit individual needs and are offered from a broad range of perspectives, including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, Family Therapy, Couples Therapy, Art/Play Therapy, Group Therapy and Dream Analysis. Particular emphasis is placed on working with process issues in therapy and supervision, and a range of different techniques are utilised to facilitate long-term personal growth and change.
