1.50 CPD Hours APS College CPD | Event number: 25663
The Psychology Board of Australia will from 1 December 2025 use its Code of Conduct to regulate psychologists’ professional practice instead of the Australian Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics it has been using since 2010. Psychologists will therefore have to familiarise themselves with this new Code of Conduct. The purpose of this webinar is to examine the nature of the new Code of Code and the impact it will have on the professional practice of psychologists, with particular focus on applications in the practice of Forensic Psychologists. The webinar will consider the adjustments that psychologist will have to make after 1 December. Specific issues arising, and applications in forensic settings will be identified and examined.
Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:
Emeritus Professor Alfred Allan is a lawyer-psychologist who specialises in mental health law and ethics and whose main non-legal-ethical research interests are in emotional regulation, violent and bullying behaviour, and corrective behaviour after transgressions. He has been teaching professional law and ethics to medical, nursing, psychiatry, and psychology trainees since 1977 and forensic psychology since about 1992. He is endorsed by the Psychologists Board of Australia (PsyBA) as a clinical and forensic psychologist. He publishes widely in psychology, legal and medical journals, was a member of the inaugural PsyBA, is the chair of the Standing Committee on Ethics of the International Association for Applied Psychology and was elected a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) in 2009. He is also a former Fellow of the APS’ Colleges of Clinical and Forensic psychologists and is a past national chair of the latter. He has served on the boards of national professional organisations and journals and is still a member of the editorial boards of Philosophy, Ethics, and Humanities in Medicine and Ethics and Behavior. He has served on various state government committees focussed on managing sexual and violent offenders. He is the author of several books and chapters. He was previously chair of the Australian Psychological Society’s (APS) Ethics Committee and the committees that reviewed the APS Code of Ethics and was a member of the PsyBA’s Code Expert Advisory Group. He still works as a legal-ethical consultant, expert witness and research supervisor.
