Overview
The APS New England Northwest Branch warmly invites you to a practical and experiential Expressive Therapies training workshop. Learn practical ways to engage with and help clients of all ages express, explore and manage challenges using art, symbol and sandtray methods. Consider and practice evidence-based, methods and tools to work creatively, safely and effectively with clients of all ages. Skill based activities will focus on intervention planning and activity design.
This workshop provides practical, useful and interactive opportunities to expand your understanding of and ways of working using a range of expressive therapy approaches. Training methods will include:
- Interactive presentations
- Large group discussions
- Pair and small group discussions
- Live demonstration of methods
- Practical experiences with art, symbols and sandtray therapy methods
- Reflection opportunities for application of methods
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to understand the benefits of Expressive Therapy for children and adults including:
- Providing developmentally appropriate and evidence-based counselling interventions,
- Building therapeutic engagement, trust and relationship,
- Allowing a safer and less confrontational means of sharing challenging thoughts, feelings and experiences for clients,
- Provision of gentle and effective counselling interventions that allows expression, invites insight and fosters behaviour change.

Ms. Jacki Short
About the presenter(s)
Jacki is the Owner and Director of Sydney Centre for Creative Change. She is a registered counselling psychologist and play therapist and supervisor with over 25 years’ experience in
counselling, supervision, group work and training. She is the current President of the Australian Play Therapists Association.
Jacki has been using expressive therapy methods in her counselling and training practice for over 20 years with children, young people and adults. Her training focus is practical and skills-based giving you fresh new ideas to work more creatively with clients of all ages. Passionate about supporting others to find creative ways to express, explore and resolve difficulties, Jacki loves sharing her insights about expressive therapy and supporting skill development in this area.
Notes
Registration includes your own creative therapies resource pack to take home, including sandtray and minitature figurines, colouring pencils, markers, oil pastels and presentation slides/handouts.
Tea/Coffee also provided.
Target Audience
This event is aimed at all local psychologists and students, and counsellors.
