Overview

The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Fifth Edition (WAIS-5) is the latest update to one of the most widely used and researched measures of adult cognitive ability.

This 3-part webinar series provide psychologists with an overview of the key changes and improvements in the WAIS-5 compared with the WAIS-IV, and the implications in clinical, educational, and research settings.

Part 1: The evolution of the WAIS 5

  • Test structure overview,
  • Introducing new subtests, and
  • Administrative guidelines.

Part 2: Ancillary scores and test interpretation in the WAIS 5 A&NZ 

Thursday 30 October 2025, 7:00pm - 8:30pm AEDT

  • Ancillary Scores,
  • Technical and interpretive manual and process for test interpretation, and
  • Highlighting the Australian Standardisation project.

Part 3: The WAIS 5 in Clinical practice in Australia in 2026 

Thursday 6 November 2025, 7:00pm - 8:30pm AEDT

  • Breadth and depth of PsyBA competency 4 in relation to the WAIS-5, and
  • Strength based reporting using the WAIS 5.

Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.

This activity is for psychologists and academics only.

Each webinar will be recorded and made available on-demand after its conclusion. Access to the recordings and presenter slides is for 12 months from the date of confirmed registration.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of these webinars, participants should be able to:

  • describe the structure and core components of the Wechsler® Adult Intelligence Scale Fifth Edition (WAIS-5),

  • explain key differences between the WAIS-5 and WAIS-IV, including updated normative data, newly introduced subtests, revised index scores, the five-factor model, and other significant revisions,

  • demonstrate practical skills in administration and scoring, with an emphasis on new WAIS-5 features, and

  • recognise the relevance of the WAIS-5 in relation to the revised Australian Psychology competencies.

Dr Jessica Peters & Dr Aimee Velnoweth

About the presenter(s)

Dr. Jessica Peters is a paediatric Clinical Neuropsychologist, specialising in the assessment and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental conditions. She holds a Masters of Clinical Neuropsychology and a PhD and works in both private practice and Academia.
Dr Peters is also passionate clinical educator and within her role at La Trobe University, teaches psychological assessment to postgraduate students training to be psychologists.

Dr Aimee Velnoweth, practice owner of Mind and Matter: Clinical and Neuropsychology Services is a dual endorsed Clinical Neuropsychologist and Clinical Psychologist with 15 years of experience in providing both assessments and psychotherapeutic interventions to adults and older adults.
In addition to private practice, she has worked across a diverse range of settings including public hospital inpatient, outpatient and community-based mental health treatment. Client populations include neurodegenerative conditions, all acquired brain injuries, neurodiversity, military veterans and broader adult and older adult mental health concerns. She is a registered supervisor for Clinical Psychologists and Clinical Neuropsychologists. She also lectures at local Universities and runs professional development opportunities.
