Integrating EMDR and Resource Therapy – A Parts-Informed Approach to Trauma Therapy

Overview

This workshop focuses on how to skillfully integrate EMDR and Resource Therapy to enhance trauma treatment outcomes. Building on your foundation in both models, we will explore how to use Parts-informed conceptualisation to support targeted, compassionate, and effective trauma work.

Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, we will explore how understanding internal states (Parts) allows us to tailor our history taking, preparation, and desensitisation phases to meet the needs of the most appropriate part of the client.

Content Includes:

  • History Taking & Client Preparation through a Parts Lens: Learn how to identify and assess client needs using Resource Therapy mapping to better prepare for EMDR.
  • Attachment-Informed Resourcing: Explore how to select and anchor Attachment Resources that reflect the client’s developmental history, unmet needs, and goals for healing.
  • Accessing ISEs and Touchstone Events: Use Resource Therapy to identify the exact part of the client that holds the Initial Sensitising Event or Touchstone Memory; the moment that shaped core negative beliefs and coping patterns.
  • Target Selection and Interweaves: Learn how to integrate RT interventions with EMDR interweaves, ensuring you are attuned to the part that is active and ready for transformation.
  • Working with Resistance and Dissociation: Discover how to build alliance with protective and conflicted parts, and gently navigate internal resistance in a way that enhances safety and momentum in the therapeutic process.
  • Application to EMDR Intensives (Mini Focus): We will also explore how this integration supports the design and delivery of EMDR Intensive programs, allowing for deep, structured healing over condensed timeframes.
