This webinar will provide psychologists and other mental health professionals with an introductory overview of intimate partner violence and will briefly discuss existing knowledge about risk factors, drivers and appropriate risk assessment tools. It will focus on understanding principles of working with both offenders and victims and explore appropriate treatment targets when working with these populations, in addition to the types of interventions which may be beneficial. The webinar will delve into potential ethical issues when working in this field, such as matters related to risk and confidentiality.

Dr Ahona Guha
About the presenter(s)
Dr Ahona Guha is a clinical and forensic psychologist and board approved supervisor. She is employed as a senior psychologist at a public forensic mental health service where she works with offenders to assess and provide treatment to reduce risk, and runs her own private practice, primarily working with complex trauma victims. She is also a published author. Her first book, Reclaim: understanding complex trauma and those who abuse was published in 2023 and her second book was published in 2024. She writes widely for the media on matters related to mental health, health, social justice, and equity. Her work has appeared in The Age, The Guardian, The Saturday Paper, Breathe Magazine, Griffith Review, SBS, and ABC. She is actively engaged in providing supervision to other psychologists and runs workshops and provides training to a range of organisations.
