Overview

The APS host this webinar with the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.

This webinar aims to equip psychologists with the skills required to interact, guide and support the Aboriginal community with which they live in.

It will assist the psychologist to understand cultural capability, cultural competence (respect), cultural safety, cultural awareness, social and emotional wellbeing for Aboriginal people, and the elements that weaken and strengthen social and emotional wellbeing for Aboriginal people.  It will also cover trauma, loss, racism, and other concepts in a culturally appropriate context.

Level of Learning

Intermediate. This activity is targeted to those who have some previous learning on the topic.

Duration of access

Participants will have access to the recording and presenter slides (once available) for 12 months from the date of confirmed registration.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Gayle Roe

About the presenter(s)

Gayle Roe is an As an Aboriginal woman from the Wangan and Jagalingou mob.
She holds a Bachelor of Psychology, Master of Forensic Psychology, and Master of Public Health (Health Promotion). She is a clinical psychologist and psychology forensic registrar, with over 20 years’ experience. The first seven years into her career was spent supporting her community in managing their trauma within prisons. Following this introduction to mental health services, she then spent 14 years working within the Department of Defence, and with the Townsville Veteran community. Her roles included that of a trauma clinician, mental health promotions officer, and alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATODs) officer.
Mrs Roe also has a secret weapon; her Therapy Dog Naevia, and uses her in her daily practice.
