A clinical governance approach and manual for solo or small private practices

Overview

The webinar will demonstrate the framework and minimal policies and procedures that are required to create client safety and high quality services in private practices that are solo or small group in structure. The framework is developed from the The Private Practice Management Standards PPMS (v3) (PPMS), and is consistent with:

  • the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care Primary and Community Healthcare Standards, and

  • the National Mental Health Standards.

This activity will review the issues of compliance and regulation for solo practitioners, and provide an approach to the administrative burden and struggle to deal with the complexities of private practice. 

Level of Learning

Intermediate. This activity is targeted to those who have some previous learning on the topic.

Duration of access

Access to the recording and presenter slides is for 12 months from the date of confirmed registration.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be able to:

  • understand the relevance of clinical governance and standards that are relevant to small private practices,

  • identify a framework that allows the practitioner to develop a set of policies and procedures appropriate to their practice, and

  • discuss and resolve clinical governance issues for practitioners who are time poor and lack administration and specialist supports (HR, OH&S etc).

About the presenter(s)

Belinda Thewes is a clinical psychologist and academic health psychologist with over 20 years’ experience helping adults to cope with the challenges of chronic and/or life-limiting physical health problems and mental health issues. She has a broad range of clinical skills and experience developed from her time spent working as a clinical psychologist in private practice, in metropolitan and regional cancer centres, and community mental health and disability services.
Belinda also has a background in research and education and has published many research papers on topics related to the psychological aspects of cancer, health professional communication and online interventions. She is a frequent conference speaker and remains actively involved in research activities in Australia and Europe.
Tara Skipper is an experienced clinical psychologist who operates a private practice with her husband in Bateman’s Bay, NSW. She has been working with clients for many years and has experience in both the private and public sectors.
Tara specialises in working with both adults and young people and has extensive experience with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress-related issues (including work and relationship stress), life transitions and changes, grief and loss, low self-worth, and health issues impacting psychological wellbeing. She is trained in CBT, SFT, ACT, MI and Compassion focused Therapy.
