ADHD-informed practice in psychology

Overview

With the recent release of evidence-based ADHD guidelines, as well as heightened public awareness, more people are seeking assessment. This activity will give a broad introduction to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), including up-to-date knowledge on:

  • prevalence,

  • causes,

  • primary symptoms and common secondary impacts,

  • common co-occurring conditions, and

  • the current socio-political context,

Level of Learning

Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.

Duration of access

Access to the recording and presenter slides is for 12 months from the date of confirmed registration.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this on-demand activity, participants should be able to:

  • describe the current understanding of ADHD and important context factors,

  • recognise signs suggestive of ADHD in complex presentations, across all ages, and

  • identify all types of psychological intervention in an 'ADHD-informed' manner - making simple adjustments as required and using neurodivergent affirmative language.

Dr Maddi Derrick MAPS

About the presenter(s)

Dr Maddi Derrick is the founding director of Hobart ADHD Consultants, where she leads a team of psychologists providing neurodivergent-affirming assessment and treatment services for ADHD and co-occurring conditions.
As a Clinical Psychologist she works predominantly with adults with ADHD and parents of children with ADHD, and provides training and supervision for her team who work with individuals of all ages. She also provides cross-discipline training to external agencies.
With lived experience of ADHD, Maddi is a passionate advocate for systemic change. She has been a very active member of the Australian ADHD Professionals Association, including being a member of the guideline development group for the ‘Australian Evidence-based Clinical Guidelines for ADHD’ (2022). She also assists with research projects and advocacy initiatives, and is a regular contributor to media around ADHD.
