This webinar introduces psychologists to the functions of anger, the mechanisms clients might utilise to express anger and ways of managing problematic expressions of anger in the therapy room, such as intimidation and threats.

It focusses on:

  • exploring the difference between anger, aggression and violence,

  • common counter-transferential responses to anger, and

  • common approaches to treating problematic expressions of anger.

Level of Learning

Intermediate. This activity is targeted to those who have some previous learning on the topic.

Duration of access

Access to this activity is for 12 months from the date of confirmed registration. Please note that access cannot be extended, and participants should plan to complete the activity within this period.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • develop an understanding of the functions of anger,

  • recognise the difference between anger/aggression and violence, and interventions for the same, and

  • identify and manage your own counter-transferential processes when faced with an angry client.
