The Victorian committee of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists supports and encourages Victorian Clinical College members to apply for a grant to undertake an online or in-person professional development event that is for members who live in a rural area.
This professional development opportunity for rural members then provides opportunity to enhance the health and wellbeing of people living in these communities.
Administration
- The Victorian Committee of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists is responsible for administering and funding the Award.
- A member of the APS Clinical College Victorian Section will serve as the event liaison between the successful grant recipient/s and the Australian Psychological Society.
- The Victorian Committee of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists will appoint a Selection Committee of three (3) College Fellows or Academic Members to be responsible for selecting an appropriate Award winner.
- The Selection Committee may recommend up to two Awards if there are projects of sufficient merit and available funds.
- Up to $5,000 per grant may be available for projects that meet the eligibility criteria, expenses must be clearly articulated and itemised.
- A signed completed APS Presenter Agreement will be required before training can commence.
- The professional development event details will be submitted by the APS College of Clinical Psychologists Victorian section committee and advertised in the APS CPD and Events Finder as a Member Group event following Member Group event procedures and policies.
- Upon promoting the professional development event via APS Member Group bulk email system it will be clearly articulated that the event is targeted for members based in rural locations.
- Upon completion of the professional development event all tax invoices will be submitted by 29 October.
The Vic Section is happy to help with a project. Here’s some ideas for CPD topics.
- Perinatal psychology, Attachment and mental health, and attachment therapy. The government has MBS funding initiatives, and these topics may be good for rural regions.
- Domestic violence & prevention
- Young people in relationships, conflict for young couples, relationship counselling skills, parents teaching their children, and family work
- LGBTQIAP+ affirmative therapy
- ACT for Psychosis, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Schema Therapy.
- Compassion-focussed, Mindfulness-based stress reduction, MBCT
- EMDR
- Eating disorders
- Forensic psychology and managing risk, especially in rural areas.
- Stepfamilies and working with the complexity of family dynamics, gender diverse and/or same-sex families, and intergenerational trauma.
- Loneliness and isolation in rural areas.
- Self-care for rural psychologists
- Personality disorders
Eligibility
- The successful grant professional development event will be listed with a residential and/or work address on record outside the metropolitan areas (minimum 120kms).
- It is envisaged that a minimum of 70% of participants of the professional development event will be in rural locations.
- The professional development event may be open to a range of rural psychologists but provides preferential fee rates for members of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.
- The successful grant professional development event will outline which particular rural needs, skills deficits, and/or participants are being addressed.
- Applicants must be current members of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.
Nomination process
- Nominations will be called for annually using the APS digital communication channel.
- APS College of Clinical Psychologists Rural and Remote Professional Development Grant Award applications must be submitted using the online nomination/application form available on the APS website.
- The Application Form requires the Award applicant to agree to the eligibility requirements as stated above and provide the following information:
- professional development program event proposed title
- CV/bio of the key personnel
- consent regarding participation of personnel
- proposed date and timeline including delivery of professional development event, tax invoices
- proposed location (rural area and multiple locations and/or webinar)
- plan for rural engagement, and attendance targets
- main aims (list 3-6) which meet rural needs, skills deficits, and/or participants are being addressed
- expected outcomes (list 3-6 e.g., specific benefits regarding skills, network enhancement, and increased Clinical Psychology rural capacity
- budget
