Loneliness is a 'psychological epidemic' in Australia

Australian Psychological Society president Ros Knight has described loneliness as a ‘psychological epidemic’ after a new report revealed one in four Australians are lonely. The 2018 Australian Loneliness Report has revealed loneliness can lead to massive health issues including increased blood pressure, depression and anxiety. Ms Knight says the research findings published in the report are ‘very concerning’ but ‘there is hope’ if the government addresses the issue quickly. If you or anyone you know is suffering from mental illness, Lifeline Australia can be phoned on 13 11 14.
