ICD-11: The assessment of Personality Disorders: A practice focus update

Overview

This workshop will review the ICD-11 framework for personality disorders. This workshop also explores the shift from categorical to dimensional classification, the use of severity ratings, and the role of trait domain qualifiers.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the ICD-11 framework for the classification of personality disorders.
  • Explain the conceptual shift from categorical to dimensional classification.
  • Identify the role and application of severity ratings in clinical assessment.
  • Interpret the use of trait domain qualifiers in formulating personality disorder profiles.
  • Evaluate the advantages and challenges of the ICD-11 approach compared to previous classification systems.

Professor Martin Sellbom

About the presenter(s)

Professor Sellbom received his PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2007 from Kent State University (USA). His research focuses on psychopathy and other personality disorders, contemporary models of psychopathology and mental health, and personality assessment with the MMPI instruments. Prof Sellbom's work has been featured in over 300 publications and he has co-authored a book on Interpreting the MMPI-3 (with Y.S. Ben-Porath) and on Forensic Mental Health Assessments with the MMPI-3 (with D.B. Wygant; currently in press).
