Trauma focused CBT for children, adolescents, and families

Organiser Banner

Overview

The APS hosts this webinar with the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), developed by Drs Anthony Mannarino, Judy Cohen and Esther Deblinger, is an evidence-based intervention that helps children, adolescents and their families with emotional and behavioural difficulties associated with experiences of one or more traumatic events.

According to Australian and international guidelines (Phoenix Australia, 2021; NICE 2018), TF-CBT is recommended as a first line intervention for children and adolescents experiencing PTSD. TF-CBT has been implemented in a number of settings including schools, acute adolescent inpatient units, private practice, mental health services, in child protection, and out of home care services.

This webinar aims to:

  • address the impact of trauma on the development of children and adolescents,

  • provide psychologists with guidance regarding the assessment of PTSD in children and adolescents,

  • explore the evidence for TF-CBT and its use across various settings, and with varying populations and,

  • increase psychologists’ knowledge of the TF-CBT model and it’s implementation.
