Introduction to Imagery Rescripting

Organiser Banner

Overview

More recently, Imagery Rescripting (ImRs) has been found to be an effective as a stand-alone treatment for complex forms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and adverse experiences from childhood.

ImRs, an emotionally disturbing situation, such as a traumatic memory, is imagined and the course of the event is changed to a more desired ending. Through the process of rescripting events and meeting the needs of the patient, it can lead to fundamental changes in core beliefs and reduction in symptoms.

This activity covers:

  • the importance of imagery in clinical practice,

  • an introduction to imagery rescripting, and

  • an awareness of imagery rescripting as an effective transdiagnostic treatment for adverse events.
