This eLearning activity aims to enhance and upskill clinicians in the provision of clinical mental health services for older people living in residential aged care facilities. It is designed for psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health worker and comprises of the following modules:

  1. Introduction to Ageing: Facts, Attitudes and Myths,

  2. Aged care and the Australian residential aged care environment,

  3. Mental health issues of older people living in residential aged care facilities, and

  4. Evidence-based treatments.

Level of Learning

Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.

Duration of access

Access to this eLearning is for 6 months from the date of confirmed registration.  Please note that access cannot be extended, and participants should plan to complete the activity within this period.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this activity, partcipants should be able to:

  • better understand the ageing process,

  • navigate the aged care system and residential aged care setting,

  • navigate commonly occurring mental heath issues in older people,

  • better assess older people’s mental health, and

  • deliver evidence-based psychological interventions in the context of residential aged care.
