Sarah Graham
Sarah Graham, a Kombumerri woman from the Gold Coast region, Queensland, was the 2016 recipient of the APS Bendi Lango bursary. She is enrolled in the Doctor of Psychology in the field of Clinical Neuropsychology and Clinical Psychology at The University of Queensland,.
Sarah completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science with Honours at Griffith University. This work has allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of burns patients and individuals obtaining treatment for a wide range of medical issues and to investigate the effects of psychological sequelae on multidisciplinary treatment adherence in adult burns patients.
Sarah is pursuing a career pathway that will allow for exploration of her interests in clinical neuropsychology, specifically in paediatrics, neurological disorders and the role of neuropsychology in medicine.
Sarah has obtained a number of awards and internship posts such as the 2014 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and Psychology Student Conference Award, an Indigenous Cadetship with Queensland Health and an award in 2014 for Academic Excellence at Griffith University.
Sarah hopes to become a highly qualified member of the Indigenous community, and to aid in reducing the stigma and stereotypes that impact her community. She is determined to continue research in order to help all people including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to overcome obstacles to living a healthy and safe life. She hopes that her work as a psychology professional can bring knowledge, innovation, youth and an Aboriginal perspective to her future workplace.
