Congratulations to our 2026 Australia Day Honours recipients

We are proud to share that five of our members have been recognised in the Australia Day Honours List, as announced by the Governor-General. Such recognition highlights the importance of the psychology profession and pays tribute to the tireless work by those in our field. 

Dr Michael Robert Carr-Gregg AO MAPS from Victoria has been appointed as Officer of the Order of Australia (OA) for distinguished service to child and adolescent psychology, to policy reform as an advocate and advisor, to youth cyber safety, and to the community. Dr Carr-Gregg has been a member of the APS for more than 22 years.  

Dr David Forbes AO FAPS from Victoria has been appointed as Officer of the Order of Australia (OA) for distinguished service to mental health research and practice, to the prevention and treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder, and to academia. Dr Forbes is the Director of Phoenix Australia, and Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, the University of Melbourne. Dr Forbes has been a member of the APS for more than 35 years.  

Dr Paul David Kremer AM MAPS from Victoria has been awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (OA) in the General Division for significant service to the built environment. Dr Kremer is a clinical academic under psychology and health at Monash Medical Centre and holds advanced qualifications in psychology, specialising in mental health, counseling, and organisational psychology. Dr Kremer has been a member of the APS for over four years. 

Assistant Commissioner Joel Brady Smith ACM MAPS has been awarded the Australian Corrections Medal (ME). With over 20 years of service in corrections and a background in forensic psychology, Assistant Commissioner Smith has consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to the safety of officers, prisoners and the wider community. Assistant Commissioner Smith has been a member of the APS for more than 15 years. 

Dr Judy Tang OAM MAPS from Victoria has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division for service to mental health, to cultural diversity, to equality, and to ageing. Dr Tang is a Clinical Neuropsychologist, Commissioner at Victorian Multicultural Commission and Board Director at Victorian Pride Centre and has been a member of the APS for more than 17 years. 

The APS congratulates those recognised as part of the Australia Day Honours List.
