APS Division of General Psychological Practice (DGPP) Significant Contribution Award

Judy Marty is a psychologist working in private practice in Perth. She describes her current role as a private practitioner but certainly not an independent practitioner. Judy has developed a model of service that is based upon multidisciplinary planning, assessment, shared care, treatment and outcome review. Her practice is known for the provision of excellent standards of clinical care with the client at the centre of all elements of practice.

Judy’s 20-year career has been varied. Her experience is largely reflective of her commitment to rural and remote psychology and the provision of accessible mental health services. She worked within the realm of child protection for a decade and was responsible for the implementation of early intervention programs in rural and remote Western Australia.

Judy provides mentoring and supervision for students, provisional and early-career psychologists. She is committed to excellence in psychological practice and the development of excellent psychologists in general psychological practice.

As the representative for Western Australia, Judy was a founding member of the DGPP Forum. She held this position for three years and was honoured to dedicate the time and personal resources required to nurture the DGPP in its infancy. As an advocate for the profession of psychology as a whole, Judy volunteers her time at each of the four universities in Perth to promote mental health, psychology and pathways into the profession.

Judy is driven by a desire for integration – a sense of integration for clients from neurology to behaviour to community; integration across elements of private practice; inter-discipline integration and importantly, integration for general psychological practice.

Judy has held a number of positions within the APS, promoting and providing for the needs of members. Judy is currently the Chairperson for the Perth Branch of the APS.
