A series of new scholarships are now available to undergraduate and postgraduate psychology students undertaking psychology studies.
The scholarship funding was committed by the Federal Government in the 2021-22 Federal Budget to attract, train and retain key mental health professionals and to address workforce pressures.
The APS is a member of the Stakeholder Advisory Group leading the scholarship program.

Value of the scholarship
The maximum amount of funding is from $15,000 to $30,000 per scholarship.
Eligibility criteria
The eligibility criteria for undergraduate students are that you must be:
- an Australian citizens or permanent resident
- enrolled or intending to enrol in undergraduate postgraduate studies in 2022
- planning to progress to full registration as a psychologist working in a mental health setting.
For postgraduate students you must:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- be enrolled or intending to enrol in an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited postgraduate psychology course in 2022
- have provisional registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra)
- works in the mental health sector which includes primary care, community care, psychiatric hospitals, mental health units and aged care services.
Information collected on your rurality and being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background will be used as a selection weighting to meet workforce need.
Selection criteria
The selection criteria for undergraduate scholarships involves answering questions on your driving influence and motivation for studying psychology, and for postgraduate scholarships on how your study will improve the quality of people’s lives and support you to achieve good outcomes for those accessing your services.

The applications will be assessed by psychologists.

There are several other scholarships available within allied health which psychology students are encouraged to apply for.
Allied Health Postgraduate
Valued at up to $15,000 per scholarship, to study either a graduate certificate, graduate diploma or a masters.
