Psychologists' perspectives on self-care and reflective practice as professional competencies: A qualitative inquiry

Closes 30 August 2026

Are you a registered psychologist working full-time in Australia with direct client contact?

Southern Cross University invites you to participate in a qualitative study exploring how contemporary clinicians conceptualise and integrate self-care and reflective practice into their professional lives, particularly in light of the new PsyBA Code of Conduct.

Conducted by Honours student Charlene Pratt under the supervision of Dr Carrie Thomson-Casey, this study aims to understand psychologist self care and reflective practices.

What is involved?

  • A brief 2-minute online eligibility screening survey via Qualtrics.
  • A single, 45-to-60-minute semi-structured interview conducted securely online via Zoom.

Discussions focus on your insights regarding professional wellbeing, barriers to self-care, and the impact of recent regulatory updates.

Participation is entirely voluntary, and all data will be rigorously de-identified before analysis to ensure privacy. This study has been approved by the Southern Cross University Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC Approval: CT02281).
