Tribute to Martha Mack by her husband George

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Martha Mack, following an unexpected medical incident.
Martha was my wife of 45 years and the heart of our family—a remarkable woman who touched countless lives with her kindness and dedication. As a highly respected psychologist, she profoundly impacted children, parents, and families, offering unwavering support and care.
Martha worked in the field of psychology for over 30 years, specialising in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum, ADHD, Developmental Delays, and particularly Specific Learning Difficulties and Dyslexia. Over her career, over 4000 families benefited from her services in Australia and internationally.
Martha was an AHPRA Board-Approved Supervisor in Psychology and was recognised as an Honorary Fellow of the University of Melbourne Graduate School of Education for her work in supporting students in the field of Educational and Developmental Psychology.
Martha was captivated by the potential of neuroscience to transform lives. Upon discovering Neurofeedback and Auditory Training, she embraced these technologies as the foundation of her work. In 2000, she founded the Listen and Learn Centre in Melbourne, specialising in brain-based interventions, which she led for 18 years. She also trained others in these methods, continuing her mission to create life-changing improvements in brain function.
Martha served as president of ANSA – the Applied Neuroscience Society of Australasia – from 2019 to 2021, and of BCIA-A – the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance, Australian Chapter – from 2017 to 2019. In 2016, she was a founding member of AADPA – the Australian ADHD Professionals Association – contributing significantly to the development of the Australian National Guidelines for evidence-based practices for ADHD and related disorders, released in 2022.
Martha approached every endeavour with unparalleled passion and determination, earning her the affectionate title of “a beacon of inspiration.” Her zest for life and adventure was boundless. Together, we travelled the world—marvelling at the Northern Lights in Norway, exploring underwater worlds while scuba diving in the Philippines, sailing through the Greek Islands, climbing Machu Picchu, and standing at the edge of the world at Cape Horn in South America.
Martha’s love for the sea was profound, and her joy for boating was an integral part of her adventurous spirit. Whether enjoying leisurely afternoons on the water or embarking on extended sailing journeys, Martha found peace and happiness surrounded by the ocean’s endless beauty.
She also had an incredible gift for photography, capturing breathtaking images of coastlines, sunsets, and marine life during our travels. These photos, which now fill our home, are a testament to her artistic eye and deep love for the natural world.
Martha’s strength, love, and generosity were a constant source of inspiration, not only to me but to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She brought light and joy wherever she went, and her absence leaves a void that words cannot convey.
We are profoundly grateful for everyone’s thoughts, prayers, and support as her family, friends, and colleagues navigate this immense loss.
With heartfelt gratitude,
George Mack and Family
