Ms Helke Kuhnast   MAPS

I have been working as a psychologist since 2005 and hold a Bachelor of Arts as well as Master degree in Psychology. My career experience includes working in community mental health, university counselling, work in various NGOs as well as private practice at the Birchtree Centre in Sydney. My particular interest lies in supporting adult survivors of trauma, including people who have experienced childhood trauma (abuse and/or neglect), sexual or other assault(s) and domestic violence.

I have been trained in a number of therapy modalities including Self Psychology, CBT, Family Systems Therapy, DBT and EMDR. I use a trauma-informed, phased approach to therapy and integrate knowledge around the neurobiological and physiological impacts of trauma. Other approaches I draw on include Attachment Theory, Somatic Work, IFS and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.

I enjoy working with people of all ages, gender, sexual orientation and cultural background, supporting them in their journey to recovery.
