Overview

This presentation introduces the Professional Competencies for Psychedelic Therapists, an international expert consensus framework. This framework was developed by a large group of leading psychedelic trainers, led by Monash's Clinical Psychedelic Lab, and released in July 2026.

The session will cover how the framework was developed, the competencies identified, and how they may inform training, supervision, and safe, effective clinical practice.

Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:

• Describe the core competency domains proposed for psychedelic therapists.
• Understand how the competency framework was developed using an international Delphi expert consensus process.
• Consider the implications of competency-based education for psychedelic therapist training and professional development.

About the presenter(s)

Georgia Ioakimidis-MacDougall is a provisional psychologist and PhD candidate in the Clinical Psychedelic Lab at Monash University. Her research focuses on psychedelic therapist training, with a particular emphasis on identifying the professional competencies required for safe and effective psychedelic-assisted therapy and investigating the role of experiential learning in therapist development. Her work aims to support evidence-informed approaches to therapist training, supervision, accreditation, and the development of a competent psychedelic therapy workforce.

Dr. Paul Liknaitzky is Head of the Clinical Psychedelic Lab and a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Monash University. He has played a central role in establishing clinical psychedelic research in Australia, leading several world-first studies and serving as Principal Investigator on a program of psychedelic clinical trials. His research focuses on advancing safe and effective.

Target Audience

This event is aimed at psychologists interested in psychedelic-assisted therapy, training, supervision and the development of a competent psychedelic workforce.

Duration of Access

This event will be recorded. The recording will be emailed to all registered within 2 weeks post event and available for viewing up to 90 days.

The providers accordingly do not make any representation that the event counts towards attendees’ CPD learning requirements.
