Welcome to the final Hobart-based instalment of the Tav Talk series for 2026! Tav Talks provide an informal space for psychologists, academics, and psychology students to gather, socialise and listen to talks about current topics of interest to the field.

The September Tav Talk will include the following discussion topics: langauge development, and Psychedelic Assisted Therapies.

The event commences from 5:30 with opportunity to mingle and order food and drinks from the venue. The talks will commence at 6pm.

About the presenter(s)

A/ Prof Nenagh Kemp
Associate Professor Nenagh Kemp is from the School of Psychological Sciences, part of Health at the University of Tasmania. Her research focus is on language and development, especially writing and spelling development. Her work spans acquisition, development and use of spoken and written language, from infancy to adulthood, with a particular interest in the written language of digital communication. She is also involved in research on the cognitive outcomes for children born preterm, the development of health literacy, and the communication of health and forensic information across different media.

Professor David Castle
Professor David Castle's work is centred on helping people as individuals, gain self-efficacy and a sense that they can truly determine their own mental health management in a way that empowers them and makes them feel a sense of self-worth and engagement with friends, colleagues, partners, family and society. He does not like diagnostic boxes and does not believe in ever using only one modality of treatment: He tries to develop a full formulation and comprehensive treatment plan, while embracing shared decision making with patients. Medication is but one aspect of therapy.

Notes

Registration includes entry into the event and facilitates branch activities. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from the venue.
