Overview
This one-day training focuses on how to effectively apply EMDR therapy within the complexity of the perinatal period, with a focused component on birth trauma.
It will cover key pathways of trauma exposure and reactivation across reproductive and early parenting experiences, challenge common myths, and review the current evidence base.
With a strong clinical focus, the workshop will provide practical adaptations for perinatal EMDR, including case conceptualisation and target selection, supported by case examples and discussion.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:
- Describe the perinatal period as a unique psychological context for trauma treatment, including the role of attachment activation and structural influences on women’s experiences.
- Identify key pathways of trauma exposure and reactivation across developmental, reproductive, obstetric and early parenting contexts.
- Apply the Integrated Theory of Birth Trauma (ITB) to birth trauma presentations, including case conceptualisation and target selection.
- Critically evaluate common myths and the current evidence base for EMDR therapy in the perinatal period.
- Adapt the delivery of EMDR therapy to the perinatal context, including pacing, session structure, and use of available supports.

Dr. Lucy Frankham
About the presenter(s)
Dr. Lucy Frankham is a Clinical Psychologist specialising in perinatal and infant mental health, as well as complex trauma. She holds a PhD focused on birth related trauma and has published in peer reviewed journals on the topic. Lucy is an Accredited EMDR Consultant, a Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisor, adjunct researcher in Respectful Maternity Care with UNE, Respectful Maternity Care Trainer with Maternity Consumer Network and a perinatal psychologist consultant for the NSW Health Sustaining NSW Families program.

Target Audience
This event is suitable for mental health professionals who have competed EMDR training Level 1. Level 2 is recommended.

Duration of Access
This event will be recorded. The recording will be emailed to all registered within 2 weeks post event and available for viewing up to 90 days

It is up to attendees to assess and determine how learning from this event aligns with the requirements of their learning plan. The providers accordingly do not make any representation that the event counts towards attendees’ CPD learning requirements.
