About the presenter(s)
Yalei Wilson
Yalei Wilson is a self-professed gender nerd living on Mumirimina country outside Nipaluna/Hobart. Queer, trans, and neurodivergent, they bring their lived experience to their work as a clinical psychologist, unraveling the tangled threads of gender, fostering collective resistance to systemic oppression and exploring ways to reimagine and create more just, inclusive and liberatory social systems.
Yalei’s professional practice is deeply informed by their lived experience, including navigating the complexities of being part of and working within the trans and gender diverse community. In 2025, they presented at the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health (AusPATH) conference on using EMDR to reduce gender dysphoria and support gender affirmation. In 2026, Yalei is set to present at the Neurodiversity Affirming Therapy Conference on understanding and combating the anti-gender phantasm in the current socio-political climate.
As an educator and consultant, Yalei facilitates training and shapes professional practices, partnering with individuals and community organisations to improve gender-affirming care and LGBTQIA+ inclusive practice. They serve as a board member of Equality Tasmania, a community organisation advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights since 1988. In their clinical work, Yalei supports neurodivergent, queer, and trans people across the lifespan, from a public paediatric gender service to private practice. They have also founded peer support groups for young people and their families, as well as for mental health professionals seeking community connection.
