APS Interest Group
Overview
The APS Yoga & Psychology Interest Group is pleased to announce our first webinar for 2026. Mindfulness in Practice: Evidence, Embodiment, and Sustainable Self-Care for Psychologists
Presented by Craig Hassed | APS Psychology & Yoga Interest Group
Join this live 75-minute national webinar (60-minute presentation + 15-minute Q&A) exploring the science and application of mindfulness within contemporary psychological practice.
Drawing on current empirical research, this session examines mindfulness as both a clinical intervention and a core self-care competency for psychologists. Participants will review evidence relating to stress physiology, attentional and emotional regulation, neuroplasticity, and burnout prevention—while also considering limitations, contraindications, and ethical delivery.
The presentation integrates mindfulness with embodied approaches, including yoga and movement-based regulation, highlighting shared mechanisms such as interoception, vagal tone modulation, and attentional training. Practical guidance will be provided on teaching mindfulness in trauma-sensitive ways, avoiding oversimplification, and integrating brief, evidence-informed practices into busy clinical settings.
This session is designed for psychologists seeking a research-grounded, ethically informed, and sustainable approach to mindfulness in both personal practice and client work
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:
- Critically evaluate the empirical evidence underpinning mindfulness interventions, including effects on stress physiology, attentional control, emotional regulation, neuroplasticity, and burnout prevention.
- Explain the shared mechanisms between mindfulness and embodied practices (e.g., yoga), including interoception, vagal tone modulation, and attentional training, and their relevance to psychological regulation.
- Apply best-practice principles for teaching mindfulness ethically and trauma-sensitively within clinical settings, including brief, sustainable interventions suitable for therapy contexts.
