Overview

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) Tasmania Branch invites you to our second TavTalk. A relaxed evening of short, insightful talks and professional connection in a pub setting. Hear from Dan Vautin (CEO Mental Health Council Tasmania) and Ben Fisher (Lifeline Tasmania) who will share insights about the important work their organisations do to support the mental health of the Tasmanian community.

Event Details: 

  • Place: The Vue at Customs House Hotel
  • Date: Wednesday, 25th March 2026
  • Time: 5:30pm for a 6pm start. Expect to go to 8pm TAS Time

A/Prof. Aaron Drummond and A/Prof. James Sauer
A/Prof. Aaron Drummond and A/Prof. James Sauer are Tamanian-based world leading experts in gambling and gaming, with over two decades of expertise in the psychological impacts of digital media. Their research has advanced scientific understanding of how people process information, make decisions, and evaluate their own understanding in applied domains including law, public health, and engagement with gambling-like digital media.

Their pioneering work has shaped scientific understanding and policy responses to gambling-like mechanisms in video games, contributing to classification reforms in over 40 countries globally, and legislative changes in Australia. It has appeared in top-tier international journals, supported expert testimony for parliamentary inquiries in Australia and the United Kingdom, and directly shaped national and global policy responses to gambling-like mechanisms in video games.

Ben Fisher
Ben Fisher is the Community Engagement and Business Development Manager at Lifeline Tasmania. He is recognised for his leadership within the community sector, playing a pivotal role in establishing A Tasmanian Lifeline, the state’s social and emotional support phone line, in 2020. He is also the Tasmanian committee member for Suicide Prevention Australia. Ben’s work is centred on strengthening community connection and supporting the wellbeing of all Tasmanians.
