Presentation
Please come along and listen to our presenter talk about relevant psychology topics.
The impact of dissociation when using EMDR therapy with Complex PTSD
This presentation will provide an overview of our current understanding of dissociation in its many forms and an update on Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) as an integrative transdiagnostic psychotherapy. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing can lead to significant changes in personality traits by altering the way traumatic events are stored in the brain. EMDR can reduce the impact of past trauma on current thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, resulting in shifts in how individuals perceive themselves and interact with the world.
Learning Outcomes
- To apply knowledge from current and innovative EMDR literature to the understanding and treatment of trauma.
- To explain trauma, dissociation, and EMDR therapy and theory as defined in present day times.
- To integrate knowledge from other theoretical perspectives to improve our understanding of how and why EMDR therapy works at various stages of treatment.
