Overview
This course, designed and instructed by International Society of Schema Therapy Accredited supervisor/trainers Chris Hayes and Rob Brockman, covers the basics of schema therapy practice using the schema mode model. This includes an introduction to the mode model, mode formulation, and the central schema therapy techniques relevant to the treatment of schema modes (Imagery Rescripting, Chair-work Dialogues, Limited Reparenting).
This course is designed as an intermediate level course, to be completed over 6-weeks (Standard Access is given for 16-weeks total). Participants can pace the learning according to their own needs. The training constitutes 18-hours of active professional development. You will be provided a certificate on completion.
There will also be a live zoom consultation meeting scheduled midway during the program to give opportunity for questions and engagement. Our learning platform provides further avenues for questions and engagement.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the background theory and evidence related to schema therapy using the 'mode' model.
- Understand the process of mode assessment and formulation with complex clinical presentations. Obtain the skills necessary to create 'mode maps' for clients and share them.
- Gain the knowledge and skills required to apply schema therapy interventions to target maladaptiive schema modes (e.g. Imagery Rescripting, Chairwork Dialogues, Limited Reparenting).
- Start the process of reflecting on one's own schemas as a way of understanding problematic patterns/transference in the therapy relationship.

About the presenter(s)
Chris & Rob are co-authors of the Cambridge Guide to Schema Therapy. Published in June, 2023. Chris Hayes is a Clinical Psychologist and Schema Therapy Trainer based in Perth. He has had extensive experience in both government and private settings working with clients with complex psychological presentations. Since 2005, he has been practising as an Advanced Schema Therapist, supervisor and trainer, having completed certification in Schema Therapy at the Schema Therapy Institute in New York City (USA) with Dr Jeffery Young. He has presented workshops throughout Europe, Asia and Australasia. He is the Director of Schema Therapy Training Australia. In addition to the provision of Schema Therapy training and supervision, he is currently employed with the Health Department of Western Australia as a Senior Clinical Psychologist (within a specialist service working with those who have experienced recent or childhood sexual trauma). He has written extensively in schema therapy and co-produced 2 DVD/ video releases, "Fine Tuning Imagery Rescripting" and "Fine Tuning Chair Work in Schema Therapy" (the 1st of their kind internationally).
Robert is a Sydney based clinical psychologist and current president of the ISST (International Society of Schema Therapy). Rob has extensive experience teaching on Clinical Psychology Masters programs (Western Sydney University; University of Technology). Since 2014, Rob has regularly provided Schema Therapy Training events across Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and South-East Asia, and has trained over 2000 therapists in the schema therapy approach
