The intersection of stalking and homicide

Overview

The NSW College of Forensic Psychologists invites you to join us for an upcoming professional development webinar exploring the complex intersection between stalking behaviours and homicide delivered by Prof Troy McEwan.

This webinar will discuss and question the supposed relationship between stalking and homicide with reference to prior research and using data from a recent population study of Victorian homicides over 20 years. Implications for forensic psychology practice will be discussed.  

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:

  • Critique research methodologies linking stalking and homicide
  • Understand the prevalence of stalking in homicide cases and homicide in stalking cases
  • Identify factors in stalking cases that could indicate a greater risk of imminent and severe violence

Professor Troy McEwan

About the presenter(s)

Troy is a Professor of clinical and forensic psychology at the Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science, Swinburne University of Technology, and a Principal Psychologist at Forensicare. Her research focuses on improving understanding, assessment and responses to complex harmful behaviour such as stalking, family violence and firesetting. She has published over 90 articles, chapters and books on these topics, including several risk assessment guidelines and tools for stalking and family violence, and provides regular professional development activities for practitioners in Australia and internationally.
