Big Speaker Alert – Dr. Robert Brockman is Coming to the Central Coast!

The NSW APS Central Coast Branch has been able to secure one of the biggest names in the Schema Therapy Space. Rob Brockman!

Come join us for a practical and engaging 1-day workshop designed to introduce clinicians to the foundational principles of Schema Therapy. This introductory-level training is ideal for psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, social workers, allied health professionals and students who are interested in Schema Therapy and looking to expand their therapeutic toolkit. 

Whether you’re completely new to the model or simply seeking to enhance your current practice, this workshop will provide valuable insights and hands-on techniques you can apply immediately with clients.

Participants will learn how to incorporate key elements of Schema Therapy into their current practice to deepen client engagement, enhance emotional processing, and target entrenched patterns of behaviour. Training will be delivered through a dynamic mix of didactic teaching, experiential demonstrations, and guided reflection activities, ensuring a rich & interactive experience. 

While this event is not part of the formal certification, participants will leave with a strong foundation and the confidence to begin incorporating schema-informed approaches into their clinical practice.

For those wishing to pursue full certification, this workshop serves as a steppingstone into further training pathways. Please note full certification can be discussed at the event with Rob (noting in Australia 4+2 pathway and relevant clinical experience is considered eligible to undergo certification training).

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the historical and conceptual basis for Schema Therapy practice.
  • Understand the evidence base for Schema Therapy practice.
  • Apply core Schema Therapy concepts to assist in schema assessment and case conceptualisation.
  • Understand the Schema Therapy Treatment and Intervention Model and its relevance to Complex cases of psychopathology.
  • Gain knowledge and skills in Schema Therapy interventions (e.g. Imagery Rescripting, Chair-work, Limited reparenting).

Dr. Robert Brockman

About the presenter(s)

Robert is the founder and director of Schema Therapy Sydney and has extensive experience teaching and supervising on clinical psychology masters programs in Sydney since 2010. Since 2014 he has facilitated over 100 schema therapy workshops with colleagues across Australia, New Zealand, South-East Asia, and Europe. Rob is the current president of the International Society for Schema Therapy. His clinical experience is drawn from both public (e.g. Hospitals, community mental health) and private health sector positions (e.g. private practice) in Sydney. Robert is accredited by the International Society for Schema Therapy (ISST) as a schema therapist, supervisor, and trainer. He holds a Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology, Doctor of Psychology (Clinical)/ DPSYCH & Doctor of Philosophy/ PhD. Robert is an active academic (Honorary Teaching Fellow; University of Technology Sydney). He has a major clinical and research interest in formulation and intervention with complex presentations that prove difficult to treat via standard evidence-based protocols. He is currently engaged in clinical research focusing on extending the schema model into novel populations (e.g. GAD, Eating Disorders, HIV Sufferers, Problem Gamblers, Forensic Patients, and Psychosis).

Registration includes access to learning materials including schema monitoring and formulation templates, experiential practice scripts, and lecture handouts.
