Learning Outcomes

  • Learn how to conduct a thorough couples assessment including but not limited to the following: presenting problem, partner strengths, triangulations, relationship traumas, relationship interfering behaviours, behavioural conflict sequences, maladaptive coping, over compensation and avoiding in relationships, parenting, sex and desire and more.
  • Learn how to create an evolving couples formulation, including relationship patterns, vulnerabilities and maladaptive coping behaviours.
  • Develop skills as a couples therapist through roleplays and other learning activities to facilitate couple interventions including but not limited to empathy building, dynamics change, positive psychology interventions for healthy habits, understanding and giving names to specific relationship dynamics, building insight and behavioural change, dealing with the in-room dynamics.
  • Understand the underpinning research and how to deliver psychoeducation and the rationale for each intervention.

Helen Robertson & Shahn Baker Sorekli are Clinical Psychologists, co-authors of The 8 Love Links, and creators of the My Love Your Love couples coaching app. They are a dynamic team both in practice and in life. Married and deeply experienced, they bring warmth, wisdom, and practical insight to training.

Helen is an Advanced Certified Schema Therapist and Supervisor
Shahn has over 20 years of experience working with couples in a variety of therapeutic settings

Both Helen and Shahn have worked in a variety of settings including public mental health services and private practice.
