Overview
PsyBA-approved Supervisor refresher training
Master class (Part 4) has been developed for psychologists who want to maintain their status as a Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA)-approved supervisor (principal or secondary). Approved supervisors are eligible to enrol and attendance to this training will meet the requirements to maintain supervisory status for a further five years. Psychologists who are not currently a PsyBA-approved supervisor can use this workshop for general CPD purposes but cannot use this workshop to gain supervisor approval.
This masterclass presents the Psychotherapy supervision framework (Gilbert, M.C & Evans, K., 2000) to explore how to address the complex and intricate dynamics of the inter-personal relationship process within the supervisory and therapeutic relationship.
This master class will focus on:
-
how to build therapeutic competence through experiential learning and video role plays,
-
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy theory (Gabbard, 2017), with a particular emphasis on how these skills operate in a broad range of supervision contexts, and
-
the Psychotherapy framework to identify specific supervisory competencies which will then be applied to building skills in the supervisory alliance.
Participants will be guided through two specific role play exercises and reflective discussions to demonstrate competence in identifying the supervisees experience of the client in the therapy context and of themselves in the supervision context. This will emphasize experiential learning, highlight the parallel process, help to enhance emotional awareness and increase comfort and tolerability of deeper reflective practice and negative emotional states.
This masterclass provides the unique opportunity to develop supervisor competencies in a Psychodynamic Psychotherapy framework. This will enable reflection on the multi faceted ways in which our own unique personalities impact our client work and our experiences as supervisees, which then combine to determine and shape our identity and competency as supervisors.
