Psychology Education Interest Group Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Research Grant Award

How will the award be administered:

1. The award will be administered by the APS Psychology Education Interest Group Committee, in accordance with the APS awards processes and governance requirements. A biannual call for nominations will be circulated in odd numbered years, via APS communication channels, including the APS Hub, the AusPLAT social media sites, and relevant member mailing lists.

2. Applications will be assessed by an award selection panel appointed by the Committee, comprising members with expertise in psychology education and the scholarship of teaching and learning. All panel members will adhere to the APS conflict of interest procedures.

3. The Committee reserves the right not to make an award in any given year if the applications received do not meet the required standard, consistent with APS award practice.

4. The award recipient will be formally endorsed by the APS Psychology Education Interest Group and recognised through APS communication channels, and where possible, at an APS event, typically AUSPLAT.

5. It is expected that all successful applicants will:

   • Submit a final report

   • Present findings through an APS Psychology Education Interest Group event

   • Acknowledge the Interest Group in resulting publications

6. The award will be financially supported through existing Psychology Education Interest group funds including surpluses generated from previous events such as AUSPLAT. The Committee will ensure that sufficient funds are available at the time the award is offered, rather than making the award contingent on future funding availability. The approach aligns with prior feedback emphasizing the importance of financial sustainability and certainty in award delivery.

1. Eligibility of nominee:

   • The lead investigator must be a current APS member and a member of the Psychology Education interest group

   • Nominees must be engaged in psychology education

   • Applications may be submitted by individuals or collaborative teams across institutions and/or spanning secondary and tertiary education

   • The proposed SOTL research must be completed within 12 months

   • Self-nominations are permitted 

Nominations must be submitted via the Award Nomination Portal by the advertised closing date.

Each nomination must include:

• A written statement (up to 1500 words) outlining the SOTL research including context, aims, methodology or approach, and proposed outcomes
• Evidence of impact on student learning, teaching practice, or curriculum
• A clear dissemination plan (e.g., publications, presentations, resources)
• A brief CV for all investigators
• At least one referee/peer review report commenting on the quality and impact of the work
• Incomplete or late applications will not be considered

Selection criteria of nominee:

1. Applications will be assessed on the scholarly quality, rigour, and impact of the submitted SOTL research.

Criteria include:

• Scholarly quality and rigour (e.g., theoretical grounding, methodological appropriateness, coherence).
• Impact on student learning, teaching practice or curriculum within psychology education.
• Innovation and originality.
• Feasibility of the research including duration and financial costs.
• Dissemination potential and contribution to the field.

2. A Grant review committee will be appointed annually through the Psychology Education Interest Group committee to:

• Review applications
• Assess proposals using standardised rubric
• Recommend projects for funding to the interest group executive.

Value of the award:

1. Up to AUD $3,000 per project.

2. Typically, two grants will be offered every second year, depending on the available funds.

Award closes:

1. This award is offered on a biennial basis
2. Nominations close on 31 January COB of each odd-numbered year
3. Nominations open during the year preceding the award closing date
