Riverina Psychology Student Prize

The APS Riverina Branch Student Prize in Community Support and Development is a prize awarded to a  first year student who has contributed to the psychological wellbeing of the Riverina community. The aim of the prize is to encourage and to promote membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

Administration

  1. The Prize is the responsibility of the Riverina Branch of the APS.
  2. The Riverina Branch will have primary responsibility for raising the funds for the Prize.
  3. Members of the Riverina Branch Committee will be responsible for recommending an appropriate recipient of the Prize to the Board. The recipient will be notified by the APS Riverina Branch. The recipient of the Prize shall be announced via APS digital communication channels.
  4. The Prize will be presented at the APS Riverina Branch AGM or a similar event.

Eligibility

Students must:

  1. Be enrolled in psychology subjects at an APAC-accredited university in the first year of psychology studies, with the intention to major in psychology
  2. Working in either paid and/or volunteer work that contributes to the psychological wellbeing of the Riverina Community.

Nomination process

  1. All students will be made aware of the Prize through relevant channels and the APS Riverina Branch page. 
  2. Students will submit a letter of application of no more than 1000 words answering a number of specific questions:
    1. What made you decide to study psychology?
    2. What are your career expectations at this point of your training?
    3. How do you see psychology improving the wellbeing of the Riverina community?
  3. Students will submit relevant enrolment proof showing they are studying psychology subjects in the first year of their psychology studies.
  4. The members of the Riverina Branch General Committee will be responsible for identifying the successful recipient of the Prize.

Value of the award

Successful candidates for the APS Riverina Branch Student Prize will:

  1. receive an award of $200;
  2. be offered a 12 month student membership to the APS without cost to the candidate, provided they meet the eligibility criteria for this grade of membership. If the recipient is an existing student member of the APS, they will be offered a student membership for the following twelve (12) months at no cost to the recipient.
  3. a certificate of achievement issued by the Australian Psychological Society
