Congratulations to our 2023 King's Birthday Honours recipients

Congratulations to our 2023 King's Birthday Honours recipients

We are proud to share that three psychologists have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List, as announced by the Governor-General. Our whole profession benefits when the profile of psychology is raised through such achievement, and it is wonderful to see such recognition of tireless work by those in our profession.

Professor Richard Phillip MATTICK AM MAPS from New South Wales has been awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division (AM) for significant service to drug and alcohol research through education and social policy, and to medical organisations. He has been a Member of the APS for over 23 years.

Dr Carol Newnham OAM from Victoria has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division (OAM) for service to community health as a neuropsychologist. Dr Newnham is a Developmental, Educational and Neuropsychologist and is the Director at Raising Premmies clinic.

Dr Paul Gerard POWER OAM FAPS from Victoria has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division (OAM) for service to psychology. Dr Power is an Organisational Psychologist, former APS Executive Officer (1974-1977) and author. He is a Fellow of the APS and has been an APS member for over 60 years.

Scientia Professor Louisa Degenhardt AO from New South Wales has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to medical research, particularly addiction and mental disorders, to psychology, and to professional associations. Louisa is UNSW Scientia Professor and NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellow and Deputy Director at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC), Faculty of Medicine, UNSW.

Psychologists have had an enormous positive impact on the lives of many Australians during recent years. This recognition is very well deserved.
