Telehealth a certainty in a year of chaos

Telehealth a certainty in a year of chaos

Psychologists have welcomed the extension of telehealth psychology sessions under Medicare until the end of 2021.

Throughout the pandemic, 94 per cent of psychologists have adopted telehealth, which has been vital for Australians to access mental health support when face-to-face sessions haven’t been possible or a barrier to care.

The Australian Psychological Society looks forward to working with the Federal Government on the details of the permanent arrangements for telehealth, announced late last year.

Quotes attributable to Tamara Cavenett, President of the Australian Psychological Society

“Psychologists have been on the front-line of a mental health crisis in Australia. Telehealth has been a lifeline for Australians to access mental health services.”

“During the pandemic, psychologists have almost unanimously adopted telehealth to ensure Australians can keep accessing mental health care regardless of lockdowns, social isolation or health concerns.”

“Disrupted treatment plans can mean two steps forward and one step back. Knowing telehealth psychology sessions can be accessed under Medicare until the end of the year provides much needed certainty for psychologists and their clients.”
