The Australian Psychological Society (APS) acknowledges that a 2026 College conference was scheduled on a date that coincides with Yom Kippur, observed from the evening of Sunday 20 September to the evening of Monday 21 September 2026.

We recognise that this should not have occurred. The scheduling of this event during Yom Kippur was an unintentional oversight, and we are sorry to the Jewish community for the impact this has had.

Ignorance is no excuse. We take responsibility for this oversight and for the hurt it has caused.

The event date has now been reviewed and rectified.

The APS is committed to supporting a diverse membership and to ensuring our practices reflect the respect and consideration that all members, including those in the Jewish community, deserve. We will take this experience forward in our planning.

We apologise for this oversight and will be mindful of Yom Kippur when scheduling future conferences.
