PsychEngage is a new, free feature for Find a Psychologist premium listing holders. It makes it easier for clients to link up with a psychologist by allowing them to send appointment requests. This has been designed with the client in mind, with the intention of removing the barrier of having to call multiple psychologists in an attempt to arrange an appointment.

How PsychEngage can benefit you

PsychEngage is designed to:

  • assist with your appointment triage
  • simplify management of your client schedule within PsychEngage
  • give you access to comprehensive analytics of the number of clients requesting your services, including your claimed and accepted services.

How PsychEngage works

PsychEngage allows you to receive an appointment request from potential clients, via the dedicated app or through the website. Clients will have the option to add you to their shortlist when running a search in Find a Psychologist, or they can find you in the PsychEngage portal.

The client can select up to five potential psychologists for their shortlist. If you are one of those psychologists, you will receive a notification via the PsychEngage app. You can also view this on the website, and can select to be notified by email or SMS.

You will then have the opportunity to reject or accept the booking request. If you have accepted the request, you can then begin communicating directly with the client.

If another shortlisted psychologist accepts the request before you, then the request will show the wording, ‘Claimed by another psychologist’ in the right hand column

How many requests will I receive?

PsychEngage is a new platform, so we cannot predict how quickly demand will build and how many booking requests psychologists will receive. However, with the increasing demand for mental health services and intense interest from media, government, and stakeholders, we hope to see significant demand for the services of psychologists through PsychEngage.

How do I opt out?

If you find that PsychEngage is not the right service for you, you can opt out at any time. APS members can simply log in to your member dashboard on the APS website and update your preferences. Non-members can get in touch with us.

What is PsychEngage?

PsychEngage is a new, free feature for Find a Psychologist premium listing holders. It allows members of the public to send appointment requests to psychologists who have opted in to PsychEngage.

What is Find a Psychologist?

Find a Psychologist is Australia’s leading psychologist directory. It connects APS psychologists with clients through a powerful search engine that generates over 1200 searches a day. Find out more.

Why has the APS introduced PsychEngage?

During the bushfire crisis of 2019/20, it became apparent to the APS that people within our communities were having difficulties accessing the services of psychologists during their time of need. Some were having to ring multiple psychologists before being able to secure a booking. To help overcome this issue, and with funding from the Federal Government, PsychEngage has been developed to remove barriers for clients and to help them connect with a psychologist more quickly and easily.

How does PsychEngage benefit psychologists?

PsychEngage is designed to:

  • connect psychologists with new clients
  • assist with your appointment triage
  • simplify management of your client schedule
  • give you access to comprehensive analytics of the number of clients requesting your services, including your claimed and accepted services.

The APS hopes that psychologists will see the benefits of making themselves available to clients through PsychEngage.

Is this an APS product, or is it provided by a third party?

This is an APS product, available free to APS members who currently have a Find a Psychologist premium listing.

How much does it cost to have a listing on PsychEngage?

PsychEngage is free for any APS member who has a Find a Psychologist premium listing. A premium listing allows you to have a detailed profile, making it easier for clients to choose you.

What information will I receive about a client before I accept their booking request?

You will have access to the client’s name, phone number, email address, location, preferred appointment time, specific client issues, and whether they are seeking a psychologist who offers telehealth services.

When accepting a request, am I committed to seeing the client? Or can I decline the booking if my se

When you accept a request, you must communicate directly with the client to decide whether to progress to booking an appointment. If after communicating with the client you feel that you are not able to assist with their needs, you can the decline the request. The client can then send the booking request out to other psychologists through PsychEngage.

How do I make contact with the client when I accept a booking request?

The booking process will be facilitated through the PsychEngage online portal or IOS/Android app.  Neither of these systems can be integrated into existing provider booking systems.

Do I need to have an online booking system?

No separate online booking system is required. At this stage, PsychEngage cannot be integrated with existing provider booking systems

Why do shortlisted psychologists drop off the list when one psychologist responds?

This approach is taken to ensure that no client is left waiting too long for a response, or that there are no crossover bookings. If the potential client and psychologist decide that a different psychologist would be better suited, the client can send the request out to other psychologists through PsychEngage.

If I am not listed on PsychEngage, am I missing out on potential bookings?

Ultimately, it is up to each individual psychologist to choose whether PsychEngage is beneficial to them and their practice.
