Overview

The APS Ballarat Branch warmly invites members, psychology students and interested allied health professionals to an important professional development event exploring the role psychologists and health professionals can play in preventing family and gender-based violence within our community. Ballarat continues to face significant challenges in relation to domestic and family violence. As clinicians, we witness the impacts across a broad range of presentations, services and settings. This event provides an opportunity to better understand Respect Ballarat, its community-wide approach, and how psychologists and allied health professionals can contribute to meaningful, coordinated action.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:

• Describe the aims and community-wide approach of 'Respect Ballarat' and Respect Victoria's work in preventing family and gender-based violence.
• Explain the evidence underpinning this approach and its relevance to psychological and allied health practice.
• Identify opportunities for psychologists and allied health professionals to contribute to prevention, early intervention and coordinated community responses.
• Recognise the value of multidisciplinary collaboration in addressing family and gender-based violence and strengthening community outcomes.
• Reflect on practical actions they can take within their own clinical practice, workplace and professional networks to contribute to safer individuals, families and communities.

About the presenter(s)

Ms. Helen Bolton is the Chief Executive Officer of Respect Victoria, the state's dedicated agency for the primary prevention of family violence and violence against women. Helen has extensive executive leadership experience across the community, health and government sectors and is committed to driving evidence informed, community-wide approaches to preventing family and gender-based violence. She brings a strategic perspective on systems change, prevention and collaboration across Victoria.

Ms. Emma Mahony leads Respect Ballarat, working collaboratively with local organisations, services and community partners to strengthen Ballarat's coordinated approach to preventing family and gender-based violence. Emma has extensive experience in community engagement, partnership development and place based initiatives, with a focus on empowering communities to create sustainable, long-term change through collective action.

Notes

Registration includes a complimentary afternoon tea, providing an opportunity to network with colleagues, continue discussions from the presentations, and connect with representatives from local services in an informal setting.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for psychologists, provisional psychologists, psychology students and allied health professionals who are interested in understanding their role in preventing and responding to family and gender-based violence through collaboration, evidence-informed practice and community action.

Venue:
Oscar's Hotel is centrally located in Ballarat and provides a comfortable and accessible venue for this professional development event.

Parking:

• Free on-street parking is available in the surrounding streets (subject to availability).
• Additional public parking is available within easy walking distance of the venue.
• Please allow a little extra time to find parking, particularly on a Saturday afternoon.

Arrival:

Registration will open approximately 15 minutes prior to the commencement of the event to allow time to sign in and settle before the presentations begin.

Please note:

• This is a Member Groups event. All communication will be sent to the registrants’ registered email address. This includes event reminders with details (such as the venue details and zoom link) and any pre-event or post-event resources, if provided by the facilitators.
• A post-event email will be sent within two weeks of the event’s completion to each registrant’s registered email address. This email will include the CPD certificate, and any additional resources shared during the session.

Duration of Access

This event will not be recorded.

It is up to attendees to assess and determine how learning from this event aligns with the requirements of their learning plan. The providers accordingly do not make any representation that the event counts towards attendees’ CPD learning requirements. If an attendee determines themselves that the learning they complete aligns to their learning plan, then they can decide to count those hours towards their CPD requirements for the registration cycle.
