Addiction and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Overview

This Addiction and DBT program offers health care professionals and staff working the AOD sector including Rehabs a DBT approach to people dealing with Addictive behaviours. The structure of the course assists workers to offer an approach that differs from other clinical approaches to addiction and has emphasis on abstinence and managing relapses. There structure of the DBT Addiction approach designed by Prof. Marsha Linehan and a variety of DBT skills relevant to addictive behaviours are taught in this course.

About the presenter(s)

Megan Shiell is passionate about the way Dialectical Behaviour Therapy can assist sufferers of emotional dysregulation. Over the past 12 years she has trained over 2,000 clinicians in the use of DBT and also in the use of DBT alongside an experiential therapy Art Therapy. Megan has presented both in Australia, and Internationally on the subject of DBT and its uses in mental health arenas and has published her work in DBT and Art Therapy in the ANZATA Journal 2008. Megan has written a chapter in a book titled “DBT-Informed Art Therapy in Practice” edited by Susan M. Clark published in 2020. Megan conducts some Face to Face intensive DBT training programs for organisations in other regions of Australia. Megan has developed many DBT programs for a variety of client groups i.e. Children in primary school, ADHD clients and now clients who are challenged by addictive behaviour
