Dr Hannah Jarman completed her PhD at La Trobe University in 2021. Her research examined the impact of social media on adolescents’ body image and well-being. Her work established the key mechanisms through which social media exerts influence on poor body image and well-being, which has contributed to the development of evidence-based interventions for adolescents. She published four peer-reviewed papers directly from her PhD work. Hannah received a travel scholarship and presented her research at international conferences where the excellence of her PhD research was recognised, being awarded the ‘Top scoring abstract for body image’ at the International Conference on Eating Disorders, 2022.
During her candidature, Hannah also engaged within the community to prevent eating disorders through the promotion of positive body image among children and young people. She has worked as a sessional presenter and volunteer consultant for not-for-profit organisations the Butterfly Foundation and the Pretty Foundation, respectively.
Since finishing her PhD, Hannah has been working as a Research Fellow at Deakin University. She has received internal funding and been awarded an Alfred Deakin Postgraduate Research Fellowship where she continues to explore the impact of social media on body image and eating disorders and potential prevention and intervention efforts.
