Significant Contribution to Rural and Remote Communities

Award Intent/Summary: 

The purpose of this award is to raise awareness of the field of rural and remote psychology and to encourage psychologists at all career stages to contribute to the health and wellbeing of people living in these communities. 

Eligibility criteria

  1. Candidates must be an elected member of the APS (Associate Member or higher grade)
  2. Candidates must clearly demonstrate a commitment to improving the psychological health and wellbeing of communities in rural or remote Australia in practice, education or psychological science for a period of five years or more. 

Judging criteria

  1. The candidate will judged on their commitment or contribution into one or more of the following areas:
    1. Completed research relevant to Rural and Remote Psychology as part of an APAC accredited Masters by coursework/post-graduate research program in psychology
    2. Significant dedication and contribution to practice in Rural and Remote communities 
    3. Completed a project which directly contributed to psychological health improvement in a rural, remote community (open to individuals and teams) 
    4. Significant contribution to psychology education and science relevant to these communities

Value of the Award

The successful nominee will receive:

  1. $1500 Cheque 
  2. Travel Package to a APS Conference (Inclusive of Conference Registration, Accommodation and flights)

The winner will be announced at the APS Awards event each year, and a video interview will be posted on the APS Website and shared across other media channels. 

Administration

Nomination process

  1. A call for nominations will be advertised across relevant APS publications and media
  2. Nominations should be submitted using the online nomination form. Please note self-nominations cannot be accepted.
  3. The APS Awards committee will be responsible for determining an appropriate candidate for receipt of the Award
