Compassion-Focused Therapy for Complex Trauma

Overview

The APS Women and Psychology Interest Group is pleased to invite members to an upcoming 90- minute webinar on the 10th of September about Compassion-Focused Therapy in the treatment of Complex Trauma. The webinar will be delivered by Lisa McLean, Executive Director of Laurel Place, which is the largest sexual violence service in Qld, supporting victim-survivors of sexual and gender based violence across the Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Murgon, and Moreton Bay regions.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:

  • Better understand key concepts from Compassion-Focused Therapy
  • Better understand how Compassion-Focused Therapy can be used to support people impacted by complex trauma in their healing and recover.
  • Better understand the way Compassion-Focused Therapy can be applied to the common presenting concerns of people impacted by sexual abuse, in particular.

Ms. Lisa McLean

About the presenter(s)

Lisa McLean has been a registered psychologist for over 25 years and has worked primarily in direct service delivery and leadership roles in NGO’s dedicated to supporting people impacted by domestic, family, and sexual violence. Lisa also has experience working in private practice and in providing training and supervision to other practitioners. Lisa is the current Executive Director of Laurel Place, which is the largest sexual violence service in Qld, supporting victim-survivors of sexual and gender-based violence across the Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Murgon, and Moreton Bay regions. Lisa completed her PhD in 2020 after developing and trialing a compassion-focused group intervention for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Lisa has also trained extensively in mindfulness-based interventions. Lisa was the proud recipient of the 2024 APS Women and Psychology Elaine Dignan Award.

Target Audience

This event is aimed at all psychologists who work with people impacted by complex trauma.

Duration of Access

This event will be recorded. The recording will be emailed to all registered within 2 weeks post event and available for viewing up to 90 days.

CPD

It is up to attendees to assess and determine how learning from this event aligns with the requirements of their learning plan. The providers accordingly do not make any representation that the event counts towards attendees’ CPD learning requirements. If an attendee determines themselves that the learning they complete aligns to their learning plan, then they can decide to count those hours towards their CPD requirements for the registration cycle.
